Product Description - all you need to know!
FORTIFIED CALCIUM SUPPLEMENT FOR HORSES ON HARD FEED
Calcium deficiency (bighead) and osteoporosis are a constant risk from high phosphorus, oxalates and phytates in feeds such as cereal and grassy hays, grains, bran and sub-tropical grass found throughout Australia (including buffel, panic, kikuyu and setaria).
Maintaining mineral intake throughout a horse’s life helps protect against dietary imbalances, and musculoskeletal weakness and injury.
• Trusted product by horse owners & veterinarians.
• A unique combination of Organic & Inorganic calcium.
• For all horses grazing pastures with soluble & insoluble oxalates, all horses on anti-ulcer medication and horses on grassy hay and grain-based diets.
• All horses on a calcium deficient diet develop some degree of osteoporosis.
• Only 5 – 15% of horses with osteoporosis develop Bighead.
Signs of osteoporosis:
• intermittent, shifting lameness
• preference to canter instead of trot
• reluctance to move forward freely
• joint pain, ‘creaky’ joints
• dental/chewing problems
• stiffness & poor condition
• tendon & ligament injuries
• ‘bighead’
• increased risk of fractures
Ideal for horses that are:
-
Fed grain or bran-based diets and on high phosphorus/low calcium feeds
-
Consuming roughage high in phosphorus (e.g., grassy, oaten, or teff chaff/hay).
-
Grazing on soluble and insoluble oxalate-rich pastures (e.g., kikuyu, panic, setaria, buffel, and other sub-tropical grasses).
-
Undergoing treatment for gastric ulcers.
-
At risk of calcium deficiency or showing signs of osteoporosis or "bighead".
Benefits
-
Supports bone health: replenishes calcium to maintain strong bones and prevent osteoporosis.
-
Balances calcium-to-phosphorus ratio: especially important in grain-heavy, hay-based and oxalate-rich diets.
-
Reduces risk of "bighead": helps prevent nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism and osteoporosis (only 15% of horses with osteoporosis develop “bighead”).
-
Protects against kidney issues: minimises the formation of calcium-oxalate crystals.
-
Improves performance & wellbeing: supports movement, dental health, and overall strength and vitality.
